Fix: Failed to load plugin url: xxx.com/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/

A few days ago, a client chatted me up and told me he was having “Failed to load plugin url: xxx.com/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/_inc/build/contact-form/js/tinymce-plugin-form-button.min.js” error when trying to edit a post on his dashboard.

After a few troubleshooting, I found out that the error was related to the Classic editor plugin and Jetpack plugin installed on his site.

After I helped him resolved this issue, I realized a lot of persons are also having this same issue.

Hence, I decided to make a quit article on this, to help them solve this error.

If you are having this issue, then the problem is probably caused after you installed and activated Jetpack plugin and the WordPress Classic Editor plugin.

Classic Editor is the WordPress official plugin that restores the Classic WordPress Edit Post Screen and Editor.

For most people, the Classic Editor is preferred over the Gutenberg Editor which takes on a new editor for WordPress. The Classic editor makes it much easier to write.

The quick solution to solving this problem, since it is related to the classic editor plugin and Jetpack, would be to simply uninstall either of the plugins.

Let say you uninstall the Classic editor plugin, and refresh your edit post screen, the Gutenberg editor would be restored, and the problem solved.

However, doing this means you will have to go back to the new Gutenberg editor, and if you are like me that prefers the Classic editor-style for its simplicity, then you know that is not an option.

Then, on the other hand, If you decide you cant uninstall the Classic editor plugin and choose to uninstall the Jetpack plugin instead, then you will miss out of all the tons of features that the Jetpack plugin brings, and honestly, I wouldn’t recommend you do that.

So, how then can you keep both the Class editor and Jetpack plugins and resolve this “Failed to load plugin url: xxx.com/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/_inc/build/contact-form/js/tinymce-plugin-form-button.min.js” error?

Here is a quick solution to resolve this error.

Step 1: Go to Jetpack Modules

Copy this link: yourdomainname.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=jetpack_modules and paste it on your browser. Replace yourdomainname.com with your own domain name that is having the error.

Step 2: Login as an Administrator

If you are not logged in already, you will be directed to your login page, where you put in your admin login details.

Note: You must have an administrator privilege of the website before you can do this. If you are not, please contact an administrator of the website to do this.

Step 3: Disable Contact Form

Locate Contact Form from the list and disable it, as shown in the screenshot above.

Step 4: Refresh your editor screen

Now that you have disabled the contact form in Jetpack modules, navigate back to your WordPress editor and refresh the page you were having the “failed to load plugin url: xxx.com/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/_inc/build/contact-form/js/tinymce-plugin-form-button.min.js” error and it will no longer be there.

Note, please do not try the method above, if you are using the Jetpack’s Contact Form.
