A statistics by Statista, a known statistical source for tech, have shown that there were about 173 million blogs online between 2011 to 2016. From 2016 till now, the number of blogs on the internet has greatly increased.
For instance, in 2017, Tumblr alone had about 350 million blogs. You can now imagine the total number of blogs currently online.
The truth is that blogs are being created on a daily basis. Hence, the number of blogs on the internet will continue to rise.
The emergence of content management systems like WordPress, Joomla, Tumblr, Blogspot, etc, has made this a possibility.
Now, one does not need to have a coding skills to create and maintain a beautiful and powerful blog online.
There are so many reasons why individuals or businesses go into blogging. People go into blogging because it gives them the platform to express themselves, share their knowledge, gain exposure, make money online, etc.
For businesses, owning a blog gives them the platform to teach about their products, gain more exposure, grow traffic, keep their audience updated, get customers’ feedback, etc.
These are just some of the reasons why people and businesses go into blogging, and why more blogs will continue to emerge on a daily basis.
Sadly, old blogs go into extinction on a daily basis, even as new ones emerge. What could possibly be the cause?
You see, starting a blog is not a problem anymore. The problem is now maintaining and growing the blog. This is where most beginner bloggers fail.
To become a successful blogger, there are various blogging tips you must know and practice. This article contains 6 blogging tips for beginner bloggers that you must know and practice to be successful in blogging.
6 Best Blogging Tips for Beginner Bloggers you Must Know and Practice
Knowing these blogging tips alone does not guarantee success. You must also practice them and make them your daily habits.
Becoming a successful blogger is not tied to just 6 blogging tips. There are so many others you must learn and begin to do.
I only mentioned these 6 because I believe they are the basic tips every beginner blogger should know and do.
1. Start Your Blogging Journey the Right Way
Most bloggers start blogging without any intention of succeeding. You see, they already failed even from the start. The start of anything matters a lot.
If you have not yet started a blog, then you want to ensure you start well. If you have started a blog already, it’s not too late for you to make the necessary corrections.
By starting well, I mean, choosing the right niche, starting with your own domain name and getting a good hosting.
If you are really serious about blogging, then don’t just start anyhow. Buy your own domain name and get good hosting.
Choose Your Niche Carefully
Carefully choose your niche before going into blogging, or re-evaluate your niche if you are already blogging.
Don’t just choose a niche only because of how lucrative it is. Yes, it is part of it, but ensure you have the passion and the necessary skills to blog on it.
Making money from your blog is great, but if you choose a niche only because of money, you are bound to give up even before the money starts coming.
There are many blogging niches you can choose to focus on, that is also lucrative. You can blog on health and fitness, tech review and news, how-to, etc.
Avoid Free Blogging Platforms
Please don’t start with free blogging platforms, it’s a waste of time and energy. I know there are a lot of blogging platforms out there like Blogspot, free WordPress.com, that you can start with.
But take it from me, you will waste so much of your time and effort if you start with those. Besides, you will find it very hard to get committed when your money is not involved.
Most of those free platforms do not allow you to use your own domain name. You use their domain. In fact, your site is a subdomain in their domain; without your own domain you cannot build a brand.
When you use those free platforms, always have it at the back of your heart that you really don’t own the blog. Your site can be shut down any time without prior warning.
“What if I don’t have money, and just want to try out blogging with a free platform?”
By all means, go ahead. But don’t think you will get any far with free platforms. Since you still want to try, you can continue with those.
When you are ready to go into blogging properly, buy a domain name and a good hosting service. Besides, it does not really cost much to start a professional blog. With just $48, you can start one.
Buy a Domain Name and a Good Hosting
Your domain name is the address people will use to locate your website. e.g, yourwebsite.com. Getting your own domain name is very essential, it lets you build your own brand.
You can buy a domain name from Bluehost.com, Godaddy.com or Namecheap.com. However, some hosting companies give free domain name for a year, so you don’t have to spend extra money for that.
See 10 tips of choosing the right domain name for your blog by Godaddy.
The next thing you cant take for granted is your hosting. Don’t just get any hosting out there. Get the best hosting. In my blogging journey, I have tried out a few hosting companies like Hub8, Hostinger, and Hostgator.
These hosting companies are good, but I usually recommend Bluehost to my clients. Bluehost is what I use to host MyBloggingHelp.
Choose the Best Blogging Platforms
To build your website, you will need a blogging platform to manage your content. These blogging platforms are properly called Content Management System (CMS).
There are so many platforms that you can use to manage your content. Examples of some of them are WordPress, Wix, Joomla, Blogger, etc.
However, I recommend WordPress because it is the best platform for any type of website and blog. Not just WordPress, but a self-hosted WordPress.org.
There are 2 different WordPress. WordPress.com and WordPress.org (self-hosted version). If you must choose right, then choose WordPress.org.
Now, you have the basic things you need to create your blog or website. The Next thing to do is to create your own blog.
You don’t need any coding skills or expertise to create your own blog. If you can spare just 30 mins of your time, you can have a blog up and running.

Choose a Good Theme and the Right Plugins
If you are quite familiar with WordPress, then you should know that themes and plugins are must-have for any WordPress website or blog.
A theme will give your site a beautiful design, while plugins will extend your site functionality. With a plugin, you can turn your site to anything you wish, be it an online store, forum, business site, etc.
However, when choosing a theme, there are a few things you must consider. Don’t just choose a theme because of the design alone.
Design is one of them, but most especially, your choice of a theme should be one that is fast and easy to customize. You see, if you have a slow theme, your visitors will difficulty accessing your site.
If I am trying to access a site, and its taking time to open, I quickly close it and check another site. You don’t want your blog to be identified with that. Besides, Google hates slow sites. It will negatively affect your ranking.
If you need their extended features, you can go for their premium versions. Aside from the fact that they are beautiful themes, fast and lightweight, you can also customize them as you desire.
For your blog or website, ensure you have plugins for SEO, Security, and speed.
For SEO, I recommend Yoast SEO plugin.
For Security (Protecting your site from attackers and backing up your site), I recommend Securi Security plugin.
For speed, I recommend W3 Total Cache
Another must-have plugin is the Jetpack all-in-one plugin. See 10 reasons why you should install Jetpack on your blog or website.
All these plugins I mentioned are free plugins. Though, they have premium versions. For a start, you are just fine with the free versions.
There are other basic plugins you should have for your blog. See 10 plugins you should use for your WordPress site.
2. Focus on Content
Focus on providing good and valuable content to your readers. Ensure your contents are well researched and 100 percent unique. Avoid plagiarism by all costs.
Carefully write your content and ensure you make all the necessary corrections before publishing. There are tools that can help you check your spellings and correct your grammar.
I recommend Grammarly for that. It’s a chrome extension. Just install and activate it, and you are good to go.
Also, your articles should be in a clear and simple language. Avoid big grammar words. You do not know who your readers are. It makes no sense when they visit your blog and leave more confused than they came.
Use short sentences. Most of your site visitors will come from mobile devices. You don’t want to chase them with over lengthy sentences. A 2 line sentence is preferable.
Make your articles sharable. Give your readers the opportunity to share your content on social sites like Facebook, Twitter, etc., and encourage them to do so.
This will also help promote your content on these platforms and drive traffic to your site.
Establish your Point
Don’t just write anything. Make sure you are able to establish a point with your content. As much as you can, make your content lengthy.
I don’t really believe you can drive home a good point with just a 300 words article. The least words per article I recommend is 500. Besides, Google likes lengthy articles.
Personally, I don’t write anything less than 1000 words article, because I want to really make sure I drive home my point.
Use Good Images in Your Posts
Images make your content more engaging. There are sites where you can get high-quality copyright-free images from. e.g, Pixabay.com, pexels.com, unsplash.com
Publish More Often
Write more often. Publish at least 2 articles every week. The more article you write and publish, the better you get at writing good content; the more exposure your blog also gets
Hire content writers to write for you when you don’t have the time to write your posts. You don’t want to hire writers that cant add value to your readers.
3. Do SEO
Don’t just have a good site and contents and go to bed hoping your site will rank. No, it doesn’t work that way anymore. You must engage in white hat SEO methods.
SEO means search engine optimization. If you need your content to appear at the front page of search engines, then you cannot shy away from SEO.
One of the recommended and most proven ways of making your site rank is by getting backlinks from top quality sites. However, this doesn’t just come easily.
If you know a little about SEO, you will realize that backlinks are the most treasured commodity in blogging. It’s one of Google determining factors in deciding where to rank your site.
There are many ways to get backlinks. One of such ways is writing good content for top sites in your niche. In turn, they give backlinks to your blog. This practice is known as guest posting.

4. Don’t Be Discouraged by your Site Stats
One wrong believe most bloggers have is that once they successfully create their blog and begin to publish content, immediately their traffic will be skyrocketed.
Well, if that is what you think, I have very disappointing news for you. Blogging does not happen that way. Blogging is a business. Hence, it sure will take time to grow.
Monitor your stats, but don’t be discouraged by it. Monitoring your stats helps you know who your visitors are (new and return), the content that individuals interact with the most and your bounce rate.
You want to as much as you can ensure your bounce rate is reduced. That is why you need to ensure your contents have what your visitors seek, and that you are targeting the right keywords and audience.
There are some great tools that can help you monitor your site state. For a beginner, you can use Jetpack to monitor your stats.
However, to get more detailed stats for your site, you need to sign up and connect your site with Google analytics.
5. Be Deliberate and Intentional
Most bloggers are not very focused. If you want to get to the top, you must be very deliberate about it and willing to give yourself all out.
Don’t allow “anything goes.” Decide the value you want to be adding to your readers. Also, decide your style and the voice you intend to be communicating your message to your readers with.
6. Invest in Blogging.
It’s amazing how most bloggers don’t want to spend any money on their blog, and they hope to make much success.
I have heard a lot of fellows on social groups and forums say that they had no interest in spending money on their blogs unless they start earning big.
If you are having this mindset, the time to let it go is now, unless you do not intend to be a successful blogger.
One of the mistakes intending bloggers or beginner bloggers make is not taking their blogging venture as a business.
Blogging is an online business; just like every other form of business, blogging also requires a financial investment.
Also, invest your time into blogging to get to the top. You must read more about blogging, take online courses, follow closely the top bloggers and blog in your niche and learn from them.
Invest your time in writing your articles. Don’t be in a rush to publish an article. Take your time and write it well.
I hope you find this article on blogging tips for beginner bloggers helpful?
While you observe these blogging tips and strive to get to the top, don’t get discouraged or get intimidated by the top sites in your niche.
Remember, every great blog and blogger you see today once started from somewhere. They wouldn’t have gotten to where they are now if they gave up.
Blogging does not work automatically. It’s a gradual process. Also, don’t see it as hard work. Learn to love what you do and be proud of it.
